Your lipstick and your toothpaste are made of oil too!

Your lipstick and your toothpaste are made of oil too!

By Natasa

Most people are not aware of this, but oil (petroleum) is actually all around us. Most of the products we use in our everyday lifes are made of oil or oil derivatives. Did you know that sunglasses, clothes, detergents, makeup, shoes, paint and many other thing are made from oil? I was quite suprissed to see how many things we use are made of oil. Oil is the number one raw material in industrialised world and we have become quite dependent on it. One 42-gallon barrel of oil creates 19.4 gallons of gasoline. The rest (over half) is used to make different things.

Here you can see a partial list of products made from Petroleum (144 of 6000 items)

Or you can watch this short cartoon illustrating what product and applications are made from oil.

I just wonder how would our world look like without plastic and all the other product made from oil, and would people find something else to fight over instead.

Have a oily day 🙂
